Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the first voter to vote in the Vice Presidential elections on Tuesday. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Ram Mohan Naidu and Shiv Sena MP Srikanth Shinde have been appointed as the election agent for the post of Vice President.

News agency ANI quoted sources as saying that Prime Minister Modi will first vote. He will vote with MPs from Punjab and Haryana.

Meanwhile, according to a senior NDA leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will organize a dinner for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs on September 8, a day before the Vice Presidential election to be held on 9 September.

According to a senior NDA leader, “Prime Minister Modi will organize dinner for NDA MPs on the eve of the Vice Presidential election. Such talks have always proved useful in strengthening unity within the alliance and strengthening relations.”

The leader further said, “Although our candidate CP Radhakrishnan has full support from all NDA colleagues, this dinner will help ensure complete coordination and unity among MPs during voting.”

Earlier on 21 July, on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned, citing health reasons, which made the post of Vice President vacant.

Therefore, the election for the post was scheduled to be held on September 9, in which there will be a direct contest between Justice (Retd) B Sudarshan Reddy and NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan supported by the Congress -led India alliance.

The Vice President is elected by an electorate, which consists of MPs from both houses of Parliament.

The Vice President’s elections are ruled by the provisions of Articles 64 and 68 of the Constitution. The Election Commission notify the Vice President’s elections by the President and the Vice-President Elections Act, 1952.

According to Article 66 (1) of the Indian Constitution, the Vice President will be elected through a single transitional vote by the proportional representation system and voting in such elections will be done by secret voting.
