The Indian Meteorological Department has claimed that India can expect more rain this monsoon season than before.
“Rainfall this monsoon season is expected to be 103 percent of the long period average,” Indian Meteorological Department Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra told reporters here. In April, the IMD had said that the country would receive normal rainfall. However, now IMD has claimed something else.
Releasing the updated long range forecast for the current monsoon season, Mohapatra said, “There will be well-distributed rainfall activity over most parts of the country.”
He said central and peninsular India can expect 106 per cent of long-term average rainfall, while the north-eastern region may receive below normal rainfall.
The IMD had announced the onset of monsoon in Kerala on May 29, three days before the normal onset date.
