Importance of Matsya Jayanti
Tritiya Tithi (third day) of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) of Chaitra month is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Vishnu’s first incarnation—’Matsya Avatar’ (fish form). During Satya Yuga, when a terrible cataclysm threatened the world, Lord Hari took the form of a fish to protect King Satyavrata, Prajapatis and Saptarishis (seven sages). This auspicious day often coincides with Chaitra Navratri and Gangaur festival. On this occasion, special rituals are performed in Vishnu temples, and devotees reverently remember this protective form of the Lord.
Celebration of Gangaur Puja
