It is believed that the fragrance, oily properties and texture of some plants not only increase positive energy in the house, but to some extent can also be helpful in keeping away creatures like insects and snakes. Although scientifically their effects are considered limited, yet traditionally they have been considered auspicious and useful.
1. Tulsi Plant
Tulsi is considered the most sacred plant. Its strong aroma and medicinal properties help in purifying the environment. It is believed that it reduces negative energy and keeps the house safe.
2. Snake Plant
Snake plant is considered very auspicious in Vastu. Its strong leaves and ability to purify air make it popular. Keeping it inside the house keeps the environment balanced.
3. Lemongrass
The strong lemony scent of lemongrass helps ward off many insects and small creatures. Applying it around the house provides both freshness and protection.
4. Mint Plant
The pungent aroma of mint not only refreshes but also keeps away some insects. It is considered auspicious to plant it in the home garden or pot.
5. Marigold
Marigold flower is known for its natural insecticidal properties. Both its fragrance and color make the atmosphere positive.
6. Cotton Plant
In some traditions the cotton plant is also considered auspicious. It symbolizes peace and stability in the home.
7. Cotton or Cactus Plant
Although there are mixed opinions about cactus, some people recommend planting it on the outer boundary of the house because its thorny structure is considered a symbol of protection.
