Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: Chhath Mahaparva is not just a festival, but a symbol of faith, devotion and self-control of crores of people. This festival is very important for the people of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. On this festival, women observe a waterless fast for 36 hours and worship Chhathi Maiya and Sun God.
This time the festival of Chhath Puja is going to start from 25th October, it will end on 28th October. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival starts from Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month and ends on Saptami Tithi.
The festival begins with Nahaya Khaya.
Women perform special puja and rituals in this four-day festival. Chhath festival starts with Nahaya-Khaya on the first day, the puja on the second day is called Kharna, while on the third day Lord Sun is worshipped, in this puja Arghya is offered to the setting sun. On the fourth i.e. the last day, the fast is broken by offering Arghya to the rising sun. It is being told that women keep the fast of Chhath for the long life of their children. However, many men also keep this fast to fulfill their wishes.

Nahay-Khay-25 October 2025, Day 1:
This time Chhath Puja will start with Nahay-Khay on 25th October. On this day, the entire house will be cleaned and people will take a vow to fast after taking bath. On this day, Prasad of gram dal, pumpkin vegetable and rice will be taken. The next day the fast will start from Kharna.
Kharna- 26 October, second day:
The second day is called Kharna, on this day women will keep fast for the whole day and in the evening they will make prasad of kheer with jaggery on the earthen stove, after this the Sun God will be worshipped, later the prasad of kheer will be consumed.
Evening Arghya – 27 October, 3rd day:
On this festival, Sun God will be worshiped on the third day. Arghya will be offered to the setting sun with water and milk. On this day, a special kind of Prasad will be offered to the Sun God. The Prasad will include Thekua, seasonal fruits and other Prasad.
Usha Arghya- 28 October, fourth day:
On the last day, Arghya will be offered to the rising sun in the morning. After this, the fast will be broken by consuming raw milk and prasad.
MLA inspected
Lucknow North MLA Dr. Neeraj Bora inspected the cleanliness of Sanjhiya Ghat located at Pakka Bridge, leveling of the ghat, cutting of bushes and cleaning of the ghat. He appealed to Bhojpuri Chhath Puja Committee President Ashok Verma and General Secretary MK Singh to run a plastic-free campaign. Said that the committee officers should run an awareness campaign to ensure that devotees do not use plastic on Chhath Puja.
