Kolkata. Within just eight months of the inauguration of the Jagannath temple located in Digha in East Medinipur district of West Bengal, the number of devotees visiting here has reached one crore. Temple officials gave this information on Monday.
With the arrival of Kakoli Jana, a resident of Tollygunge area of Kolkata, on Sunday, the number of devotees coming here increased to one crore. On this occasion, the temple authorities gave him and his family a special ‘darshan’ and provided ‘mahaprasad’ and other sacred offerings.
Radharaman Das, chief priest and trustee of Digha Jagannath Dham, said the achievement reflects the growing global faith in Lord Jagannath and the inclusive spirit of the temple. “The arrival of one crore devotees is not just a numerical achievement but it is a reflection of the universal acceptance of Lord Jagannath,” he said.
He said that this temple has become a meeting place for devotees from different countries and cultures. Since the inauguration of the temple on April 30 this year, Digha, which was traditionally considered only a seasonal sea tourism destination, is now seeing tourist footfall throughout the year.
