Varanasi: More than four lakh devotees are expected to arrive in Baba Vishwanath’s city Varanasi on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. Magh Mela, which runs from January 3 to February 17, has started in Sangam city Prayagraj. In such a situation, a diversion plan has been issued by the Varanasi Commissionerate Police regarding the reverse flow from Prayagraj to Kashi.
On Monday, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anshuman Mishra said that arrangements like Mahakumbh will be in force on major bathing dates. Big vehicles will be stopped outside the city only. Lakhs of devotees will reach Kashi on the holy festivals of Mauni Amavasya on 18th January, Basant Panchami on 23rd January, Maghi Purnima and Mahashivratri.
Arrangements for parking of vehicles have been made at many places outside and inside the city. No vehicle will be allowed to move from Sonarpura towards Godaulia. If the crowd increases, vehicles will be stopped from moving from Aggarwal Tiraha towards Assi. Special vigilance is being taken at Dashashwamedh, Assi, Namo Ghat and Ravidas Ghat. More crowd is being seen at these ghats than usual. Autos and e-rickshaws will run on fixed routes only. These will also be diverted if needed. Keeping in view the crowd of Magh Mela, a holding area has also been created. Large vehicles will be parked, if needed, in schools in Mirzamurad, Rohania, Rajatalab, Ramnagar and Lanka areas.
