Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: Maa Anandi Devi Temple located at Chowk is not only one of the major goddess temples of the city, but this temple is also a living symbol of reverence, faith and miraculous beliefs. There is a belief about this temple that Mother Anandi Devi, who is worshiped as Goddess Durga, had herself appeared here. This is the reason why no idol has been installed at this holy place, rather Mother Goddess herself is considered to be present at this place.
The temple is more than 1000 years old
Temple priest Atul Awasthi says that this temple is more than 1000 years old. This place is very important not only from religious point of view, but also from historical and cultural point of view. Due to the antiquity of the temple and its beliefs, devotees from far away places come here to visit.
Tradition of offering keys every morning
The shopkeepers running shops around the temple have special faith in Mother Anandi Devi. According to priest Awasthi, every morning the shopkeepers take the keys of their shops and offer them at the feet of the Mother Goddess, and open the shops only after taking her blessings. This tradition has been going on for years and is followed with full devotion even today.
A wish made with true heart is fulfilled
It is believed that whichever devotee comes to Mother’s court with a true heart and his wish, Mother definitely fulfills his wishes. This is the reason why there is a crowd of devotees here not only during Navratri, but throughout the year.
Special makeup is done during Navratri
On the holy occasion of Navratri, special adornment of Mother Anandi Devi is done in the temple. For nine days the goddess is decorated with nuts and fruits, and a different form of her is worshiped every day. This adornment further enhances the glory of the temple. When a devotee’s wish is fulfilled, that devotee also expresses his faith and thanks by getting special adornment done to the Mother Goddess.
