Kaushambi: There was a flood of devotees taking bath on Paush Purnima at various Ganga ghats in Kaushambi district on Saturday. Despite heavy snowfall and cold, till noon, more than two lakh devotees took a dip in the Ganga and earned virtue. Paush Purnima marks the end of Paush month and the beginning of Magh month bathing.
On the occasion of Paush Purnima, the arrival of devotees started from early morning today at Kubri Gangaghat of Shitala Devi Dham Kada. As the day progressed, the crowd of devotees started gathering. After bathing in Ganga, people worshiped Mother Ganga with flowers, garlands, milk and incense sticks. Most of the devotees, after taking bath in Ganga, reached Shitala Devi temple, paid obeisance to the goddess and offered prayers.
Apart from Kubri Ganga Ghat, a large number of people took bath in Ganga at Kaleshwar Ghat, Bazaar Ghat, Hanuman Ghat, Gujarati Ganga Ghat. In this sequence, the devotees reached Afzalpur Saton, Lehdari, Shahzadpur, Kakarabad, Sandipanghat, Palhana Ghat, Fatehpur Ghat and took bath in the Ganga. Divers along with police force have been deployed at the Ganga ghats for the safety of the devotees. To ensure that the traffic is not disrupted, the police has made arrangements for parking of passenger vehicles as well as big vehicles.
