Sitapur: The ancient Bageshwar Nath Shiv temple of Bagchan village situated on the Hargaon-Maholi road of the district has remained the center of deep faith of the devotees for years. In the holy month of Sawan, a large number of devotees reach here for darshan of Lord Shiva and for Jalabhishek. The most special identity of the temple is the Shivalinga established here, about which there is a local belief that it changes its color thrice in 24 hours.
Shivalinga was revealed during excavation
According to local beliefs, this Shivalinga was revealed many years ago during excavation in the forest area near the mound of Raja Lone Singh. Legend also says that during the British rule, the British officials had tried to relocate the Shivalinga and measure its depth, but they did not succeed.
The size of Shivalinga started increasing while making the platform.
According to another popular belief related to the temple, when the platform was being constructed around the Shivalinga, its size automatically started increasing. This is the reason why there is special faith in this temple among the devotees.
Religious events take place throughout the year
Rudrabhishek, Ramayan recitation and other religious rituals are organized throughout the year in the Bageshwar Nath temple. During Sawan, a huge crowd of devotees is seen here with special worship.
The belief of changing the color of Shivalinga
According to the temple priest Swami Ramswaroop Brahmachari, the most unique feature of this Shivalinga is that it changes its color thrice within 24 hours. Local devotees believe that carrying the water obtained from the temple with you removes life’s problems. However, this is a local religious belief.
