Hero MotoCorp to partner with Valeo to develop Advanced Rider Assistance System (ARAS) for its two-wheelers
India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp is preparing to take the level of safety in its two-wheeler models to a new height. The company has entered into a strategic partnership with automotive technology company Valeo for the development of Advanced Rider Assistance System (ARAS). For this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the two companies.
Under this partnership, Hero MotoCorp will introduce advanced safety technologies in its two-wheelers ranging from entry-level to premium segments, as well as in electric two-wheelers under the VIDA brand. The company aims to enhance rider safety and enhance the riding experience through advanced technology.
Valeo’s radar and smart camera technology will be used in the ARAS system. Its main objective is to reduce road accidents and ensure the safety of riders as well as pedestrians. According to the company, a successful proof-of-concept system has already been developed under this partnership.
This ARAS technology will basically be like ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) found in cars. Just as ADAS is becoming common in four-wheelers, ARAS will prove to be a big step forward in terms of safety in the two-wheeler segment. The ARAS system has been designed like a digital co-pilot for the rider, which will provide 360-degree safety coverage around the vehicle.
Through real-time sensing and smart alerts, it will work on both ICE and electric two-wheelers. Key features of this system include Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Distance Warning (DW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Rear Collision Warning (RCW). With the help of high-resolution cameras, it will also provide features like pedestrian detection, lane detection, traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning.
Capable of identifying road signs and obstacles even in low light, this technology will act as a strong safety network for two-wheeler riders. Through ARAS technology, Hero MotoCorp aims to make two-wheeler safety accessible to everyone and set new standards for rider safety in global markets including India.
