The production model of Renault Bridger will be designed and developed in India and is expected to be launched in 2027.
Renault recently revealed the new Duster SUV in the Indian market and it is scheduled to be launched on March 17. Runo has today shown the first glimpse of its new concept model Bridger and it is expected that this concept will be a smaller and more powerful SUV for India. The teaser image suggests that this model will be smaller than the soon-to-be-launched India-spec Duster and could create a new segment for the company.
The Bridger Concept has been designed keeping in mind the customers who prefer a compact lifestyle off-roader. If this model comes into production with almost the same design, then it can compete with cars like three-door Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny. It will also compete with upcoming compact SUVs like the Vision S-based Mini Scorpio N and the Kia Ciros.
In the current lineup of Renault, this SUV can be placed between Kiger and Duster. The design shown in the teaser shows that its body is straight and strong. The front and back are slightly square (boxy). Its roof and bonnet are almost straight and are topped with thick roof rails. There is a step on the door at the back, which gives it an old style look.
It is expected that more sharp design elements can be added in the production version keeping the Indian customers in mind. The biggest question will be its drivetrain. If it wants to compete directly with off-road SUVs, it should have a strong 4×4 system. However, the option of all-wheel drive is not yet given in the new Duster coming to India.
It will be interesting to see whether Renault brings it with a true 4×4 system or just presents it as a stylish and classic looking SUV. As an engine, it is likely to get 1.0 liter turbo petrol HR10 engine, which is already available in Kiger. Transmission options may include manual and CVT gearboxes.
The chances of Renault Bridger launching any time soon are slim. The company will first focus on launching the 7-seater Duster in the next financial year. In such a situation, this compact lifestyle SUV is expected to be launched in the second half of 2027.
