1. Mahindra Thar Facelift
When it comes to off-roading, it is impossible that Mahindra’s Thar is not mentioned. Mahindra may launch the new Thar facelift by the end of this year. The design of the new Thar will be largely inspired by the Thar Rocks. It may see a new 6-slot front grille, new LED headlamps with C-shaped LED DRLs and some cosmetic changes. Talking about the features, it is expected to get features like Passive Keyless Entry, Push Button Start, Wireless Smartphone Charger and Ventilated Front Seats, which will make the SUV more premium and comfortable than before. However, there is no possibility of any change in the engine and transmission.
2. JSW’s plug-in hybrid SUV
JSW Group is going to enter the Indian car market through its new company JSW Motors in September this year. The company’s first SUV will be a rebadged version of the Chery Jetour Traveler C-DM sold in China. This D-segment SUV will be 4,795 mm long, 2,006 mm wide and 1,875 mm high. Its wheelbase will be 2,800 mm and it will have seating facility for 5 people. The ground clearance of this SUV in China is 205 mm, but the model coming to India is likely to get more ground clearance than this to improve off-roading capability.
Talking about powertrain, it will get a plug-in hybrid system with 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine. In China, this SUV is available with two and three electric motor options, but in India, the possibility of a variant with two electric motors is more likely. With this, the option of 27.2 kWh and 43.4 kWh LFP battery pack is available. According to reports, the Indian model will be able to cover a distance of more than 100 kilometers only in electric mode.
3. Toyota Land Cruiser FJ
Toyota can launch its new Land Cruiser FJ in India by the end of 2028. It will fall in the segment below the Fortuner and will be based on the body-on-frame platform. Its length will be 4,610 mm, width 1,855 mm, height 1,890 mm and wheelbase 2,580 mm. This will be a 5-seater SUV. Initially, it will get a 2.7-litre petrol engine, which will generate 164 hp power and 245 Nm torque. The engine will be provided with 6-speed automatic gearbox and Part-Time 4WD system. In future, the company can also bring its hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. There is talk of work on diesel engine for this in the international market. Its starting ex-showroom price is expected to be around Rs 30 lakh.
