Honda 0 Series Alpha will be launched in India and Japan by 2027 and will be a midsize electric SUV
While interacting with the media at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Toshihiro Mibe, Director and President of Honda Motor Company, said that India will be an important part of the company’s major expansion plans along with North America and Japan. He said that many new models are ready for launch in the coming time.
Honda already has a strong foothold in India and being present here for almost 30 years has made it one of the most trusted and respected brands in the country. Referring to the rapid expansion of Chinese auto companies in developed and emerging markets, Toshihiro Mibe said India is a very important market for Honda. “We want to put more effort and attention into the Indian market now than ever before,” he said.
During the ongoing motor show in Japan, Honda introduced the third car in its new 0 series, which will form the foundation of the next generation of electric vehicles. The name of this electric SUV is Honda 0 Alpha. The company has confirmed that it will be launched in India and Japan by 2027. It will be manufactured at Honda’s Indian plant, from where it will also be exported abroad.
Honda’s domestic portfolio has certainly been pared down in recent years as it consists of only three passenger cars, namely the Amaze, City and Elevate. Although the design and shape of the 0 Series Alpha will be very similar to the Honda Elevate, it is not the only new car for the company. Honda plans to launch 10 new models in India by the end of this decade, out of which 7 will be SUVs. This strategy is considered a big step towards the brand’s strong re-emergence in India.
Of these, 7 will be SUVs as Honda prepares to enter a new segment, which may also include the long-awaited compact SUV based on the Amaze or City platform. Some of the upcoming SUVs will be from its global range, while some will be designed and developed specifically for India. We expect the next generation City to also be launched in the next few years.
Honda was a bit late to the midsize SUV segment with the Elevate. Now that the preferences of Indian customers are changing rapidly, Honda is expected to launch a new India-specific SUV soon. As far as the 0 Series Alpha is concerned, the company has made it clear that it will be based on a completely new architecture, which will make it different and more modern than the existing models.
