Maruti Suzuki’s new plant to be built in Khoraj Industrial Estate will play an important role in increasing the total production capacity of the company.
Maruti Suzuki is investing extensively to increase its manufacturing capacity in Gujarat. The company has planned an investment of about Rs 10,189 crore, under which a new plant will be set up in Khoraj Industrial Estate. This new plant will help in increasing the production of the company’s vehicles and making new vehicles.
This plant will be built in different phases. In the first phase, capacity to manufacture 2.5 lakh vehicles will be added every year. Later it can be increased to 10 lakh vehicles annually. In the first phase, necessary facilities for further expansion will also be created and the plant is expected to be operational around 2029.
At present, Maruti Suzuki’s plants located in Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda and Hansalpur are working at almost full capacity. The company’s current production capacity is around 24 lakh units per annum, which can be increased to around 26 lakh units with the addition of Gujarat operations. This expansion is being done keeping in mind the domestic demand and increasing exports.
The company’s flagship models like Ford, Baleno, Swift, DZire and Ertiga are continuously selling well in the domestic and international markets. The new plant will be near the Hansalpur plant, which will benefit from supply chain, logistics and port connectivity. This project will also have a big economic impact. It is estimated that this will create more than 12,000 direct jobs and about 7.5 lakh indirect jobs.
Along with this, Maruti Suzuki is also preparing to expand its product portfolio rapidly. The company is planning to launch 7 new SUVs by 2032, which will include petrol, CNG/CBG, mild hybrid, strong hybrid and fully electric models. Future models may include a compact SUV (likely launch 2028) to rival the Tata Punch, which will also have an EV option.
