Mercedes-Benz India has launched the new G 450d SUV, which marks the return of diesel engines to the G-Class range after a long time. Now the G-Class is available in three options in India with petrol, diesel and electric. The new G 450d is powered by a 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, which is mated to a 48-volt mild hybrid system, providing better performance and mileage. Only 50 units of the G 450d are slated for India. Its starting ex-showroom price has been kept at Rs 2.90 crore, which is about Rs 20 lakh cheaper than the G 580 electric version.

This SUV produces maximum power of 362 hp and torque of 750 Newton-meters. The integrated starter generator fitted in it gives additional power of 20 HP at low RPM. With the help of this powerful setup, the G 450d accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and its top speed is 210 km/h. Its structure features a ladder-frame body, three mechanical differential locks, and a rigid rear axle with double wishbone front suspension, providing excellent off-road capability and stability.

This SUV has a ground clearance of 241 mm, due to which it can move easily on rough roads. Its approach angle is 31°, departure angle is 30° and breakover angle is 26°. It can move easily even in 70 cm deep water and is capable of climbing slopes up to 100 percent. The cabin on the inside is all about luxury and comes with premium features like two-tone Nappa leather interiors, MANUFAKTUR customization options, and Burmester 3D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos to enhance the driving experience.

The new G 450d features a redesigned off-road cockpit that integrates all the essential off-road controls, such as differential lock, tire pressure, compass, steering angle and ground clearance height, into a single panel. This helps the driver to control the vehicle better on difficult roads. Additionally, it features the latest MBUX NTG7 infotainment system with a 12.3-inch driver and multimedia display. The system comes with augmented reality navigation, touch functions, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, making the driving experience even smarter and easier.

Mercedes-Benz has also updated its exterior, which includes new bumpers, vertical louvers, A-pillar cladding and a roof-edge spoiler that improve aerodynamics and cabin quietness. Additionally, the 20-inch AMG alloy wheels have been given a high-gloss black finish. The radiator grille now has four horizontal louvers, giving the new G 450d a distinct identity while still maintaining its classic silhouette.

Driver assistance and safety features have been further upgraded in the new G 450d. This SUV now comes with many features like active brake assist, lane-keeping assist, 360-degree camera and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).
Additionally, the ‘Dynamic Select’ system allows the driver to easily switch between different on-road and off-road drive modes.

With this, the settings of the engine, gearbox, suspension, ESP and steering can be adjusted accordingly, thereby improving both the control and comfort of the vehicle on every type of road. The ‘Transparent Hood’ feature helps in seeing the obstacles on the road ahead during off-road driving, giving the driver better visibility and control.
