The Bajaj Dominar 400 is now cheaper by around Rs 37,000 as it gets a sub-350cc engine, which attracts just 18% GST
Bajaj Auto has launched Dominar 400 in the Indian market with a new 350cc engine. Its price has been kept at Rs 2.03 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is about Rs 37,000 cheaper than the earlier 400cc engine model. The reason for the price reduction of the Dominar 400 is its smaller 350cc engine, which now attracts only 18% GST instead of 40%. This bike has reached the dealerships with the new engine and there has been no change in the design, features and hardware.
Commenting on the launch, Sarang Kanade, MCBU President, Bajaj Auto, said, “Dominar has always reflected our touring DNA, which is powerful, capable and built for long distances. With the new 350cc engine, we are making it more affordable for more people. Now customers will get the same Dominar experience, but at a lower cost. This is a big step towards making touring and sports motorcycling more accessible to more people in India.”
The company has reduced the existing 373cc engine to 349.13cc. For this, the stroke has been reduced from 60 mm to 56.1 mm, while the bore has been kept at 89 mm. There has also been a slight decrease in power and torque, which is around 2.4 bhp and 1.8 Nm. The new 350cc engine produces approximately 40 bhp power (9000 rpm) and 33.2 Nm torque (7500 rpm).
Looking at these figures, the overall performance of the bike is not likely to be affected much. This engine is a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled unit and gets a 6-speed gearbox, slip and assist clutch and single spark plug. The special thing is that despite having a 350cc engine, the name of the bike has been kept as Dominar 400.
Earlier, 28% GST was applicable on two-wheelers, but in September 2025, the government implemented GST 2.0, in which the tax was changed based on engine capacity. 18% tax was imposed on bikes with engines less than 350cc and 40% tax on those above 350cc. For this reason, the tax on Dominar 400 was increased, the expenses of which were earlier borne by Bajaj itself.
Its curb weight is around 193 kg, while the 13 liter fuel tank is suitable for long distance rides. The Dominar 400 continues to have many of the same features as before, including full-LED lighting, a distinctive headlight, twin digital instrument cluster, slipper clutch, USD front forks and rear monoshock. For braking, disc brakes and dual-channel ABS system are provided at both the ends.
