Nissan Tekton SUV to debut with petrol and hybrid engines on July 9

Nissan Tekton

The Nissan Tekton will be built on the same platform as the new Duster and will be produced in India with more local parts to keep the price low.

After a long wait, Nissan India is finally going to expand its existing lineup. The company will now launch a new mid-size SUV in the mainstream segment, named Tekton. This SUV will debut on July 9, 2026 and will compete with popular SUVs like Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the Indian market.

It has a full width LED light bar at the rear, square wheel arches and strong SUV styling like the global Nissan Patrol and all these things will give a powerful look to the upcoming new midsize SUV from Nissan. While many rival SUVs have a softer crossover style design, the Tekton is expected to be offered with a more powerful and rugged look. Sharp body lines, high bonnet and muscular silhouette can be seen in it.

The platform of the new Tekton will be shared with the new Renault Duster. Nissan is relying on this localized modular platform for its next big move in India and the Tekton will be among the first major Nissan cars to use it. A 3-row model based on the same platform is also said to be in development, which may be launched before the end of the current financial year.

Talking about engine options, the entry level variants are likely to get a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which will give a power of around 100 bhp and a torque of 160 Nm. It may be offered with a manual gearbox. At the same time, a bigger 1.3 liter turbo petrol engine is expected to be available in the top trims.

This engine gives 163 bhp power and 280 Nm torque in the new Duster. With this, manual and dual clutch automatic transmission options can be available. Apart from this, a strong hybrid variant is also expected to arrive at the top of the range, which could become the biggest attraction of this SUV. According to reports, it will be provided with a 1.8 liter petrol engine along with two electric motors and a compact battery pack, due to which the total output can be around 160 bhp.

Currently, very few midsize SUVs in India come with full hybrid system and Nissan is preparing to make a strong hold through this technology. The interior and feature list are likely to be quite similar to the India-spec new Duster. It will have a large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which can have Google based application integration. Additionally, a 10.25 inch full digital instrument cluster can also be provided.

The list of features may include ventilated and powered front seats, powered tailgate, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, USB Type-C charging port, dual-zone climate control, smart air purifier, OTA updates, and connected car technology. For safety, it is likely to get 6 airbags, electronic stability control, 360 degree camera and level-2 ADAS features. Nissan may launch this SUV at a lower price to reinvigorate its sales in India.
