Yamaha is planning to launch a new fully-faired YZF-R2 motorcycle between the R15 and R3, expanding its performance bike lineup
Yamaha is preparing to expand its sportbike lineup in India. According to reports, the company may unveil the new YZF-R2 on August 27. There has been continuous discussion about this bike since the trademark filing came to light. After launch, this bike will fill the gap between R15 and R3 and can join the company’s popular sportsbikes.
According to reports, Yamaha has developed the YZF-R2 on a new platform specifically for emerging markets. This bike can be manufactured in the company’s Chennai plant, from where it will be exported to India as well as other countries. Due to local manufacturing its price can be kept competitive.
The new Yamaha YZF-R2 is expected to get a new single-cylinder, liquid-cooled and fuel-injected engine of around 200 cc. VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology can also be provided in it. This engine can produce power of about 24-25 hp and torque of 19 Nm. There is a possibility of getting 6-speed gearbox, assist and slipper clutch with it. Due to the bigger engine compared to R15, this bike will accelerate faster and will be more comfortable to drive on the highway.

In terms of design, the look of the YZF-R2 may be inspired by Yamaha’s new global R-series bikes. It can be given a large full fairing, muscular fuel tank, split seat, aerodynamic body panel, LED lighting and clip-on handlebar. Its size will also be larger than the R15, which will give it better road presence.
