The new Taigun will be launched in India on April 9 and will get updated exterior and interior along with new features.
Just a few days after releasing the first teaser of the new Taigun, Volkswagen has shown its exterior. The company has started its production at Chakan Plant and has also shared pictures of the first units. The facelifted Taigun now gets sleeker headlamps, a thinner grille at the top and two light strips with DRLs.
A large body-coloured bumper is provided at the bottom. The company logo now comes with backlighting, which makes the front look more attractive. New 17-inch alloy wheels have been provided in the side profile, which are fitted with MRF Wanderer tyres. The rear design is different and it gets boxy taillamps, although these get new graphics.
The GT variant gets sporty elements like red GT logo, black 17-inch alloy wheels, black side mirrors and red brake callipers. Apart from this, GT-Line variant can also come. The Chrome variant gets wide chrome strips on the front bumper and new alloy wheels with silver finish.
Major changes have been made in the interior. The dashboard has been given a new design, which will have vertical AC vents on the side and a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system. This layout is very similar to Tharu. Apart from this, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, new rear seat (with massage function), panoramic sunroof and better AC system can also be available.
Engine options include the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine mated to either a 6-speed manual or a new 8-speed automatic gearbox. The 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine will continue to be mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic. The new 8-speed automatic gearbox may help in delivering better mileage (about 19 km/l). It has been designed keeping in mind the diverse driving conditions of India, while retaining Volkswagen’s hallmark of European driving dynamics, ultimate comfort and uncompromising 5-star safety.
Brand Director of Volkswagen India, Nitin Kohli said, “Since its launch, Taigun has played an important role in strengthening our SUV strategy. It has enhanced our product lineup keeping in mind the needs and preferences of Indian customers. The new Taigun is an important part of our future plans, which are expected to drive good growth. It is a matter of pride for us to start its production at the Chakan plant. It shows our commitment to Indian customers who love products with premium German engineering. We are confident that The new Taigun will build on the success of the previous model and further enhance the customer experience.”
