Stellantis’ future plans include a new Jeep SUV, which will be developed in India and exported to many countries across the world. The most special thing about this project is that Tata Motors will also play a big role in it. The new SUV will be produced at the Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra, where Tata Motors and Stellantis are already working under their joint venture.
Like Compass and Meridian, this SUV will not be launched in India first and then exported, rather it is being prepared as a global product from the beginning. India will be the main development and manufacturing hub of this project. According to reports, its annual export number may reach around 1 lakh units in the coming years.
This project is part of the new agreement signed this year between Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Stellantis. Both the companies will now work together more in engineering, parts sourcing and manufacturing of vehicles. Tata and Stellantis have been working together for almost 20 years, but now their partnership will not be limited to just making engines, but both will also work together in the development of new vehicles.

Currently, Jeep Compass and Jeep Meridian are produced at the Ranjangaon plant. The 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine is also manufactured here, which is used in MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Tata Safari. In future, cooperation between the two companies may also increase at parts sharing, localization support and platform level.
Although the technical details of the new Jeep SUV have not been revealed yet, it is believed that it may fall in the compact SUV or midsize SUV segment. If this happens, then it can compete with vehicles like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyrider, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Tata Nexon, upcoming Renault Bridger and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
Jeep’s current vehicles in India fall in the premium segment and due to this their sales have been limited. But if this new SUV comes with more localization then its price can be more competitive and it will also prove beneficial for exports. Stellantis is investing heavily in hybrid and electric vehicles worldwide. In such a situation, this new Jeep SUV being developed in India may also come with electrified powertrain in future.
