Tata Motors plans to launch 6 new cars and make major updates to over 20 models with the aim of increasing its market share.
Tata Motors is going to debut the Sierra electric SUV in the Indian market on June 30, but before that the company has given information about the expansion of its passenger vehicle portfolio in the coming five years. The company aims to grow sales from 6.4 lakh units in FY2026 to 12 lakh units by FY2031. For this, along with launching new models, Tata will also launch facelifted and updated versions of existing vehicles in the market.
During its annual Investor Day held on June 23, Tata Motors revealed that it will launch 6 new ICE (petrol-diesel) cars by March 2031. Currently the company has 9 ICE models and after the new launch this number will increase to 15. Although the company has not given much information about these new models, but according to media reports, they may include a new compact boxy SUV, which is being codenamed Scarlet.
This SUV can be launched in 2027 and will compete with the production models of Renault Bridger and Mahindra Vision.S. Apart from this, Tata is also working on a new MPV, which could be based on the ARGOS platform of the upcoming Sierra. This platform has been developed for trains up to 4.6 meters long.
Tata Motors also has big plans in the field of electric vehicles. The company currently sells 6 electric cars and is going to launch Sierra.ev soon. After this, the first electric car will be introduced under the Avinya brand and then two other EV models will also come in the market. According to reports, one of these could be Safari.ev, which could be launched around the festive season this year. The second EV could be based on the upcoming Scarlet SUV.
Tata Motors aims to increase its electric car portfolio to 10 models by March 2031. Including both ICE and EV, the company will have a total portfolio of 25 models. Many models will be based on the same vehicle, so despite having a total of 25 models, the number of different vehicles is expected to be around 15 to 20.
Apart from new vehicles, Tata Motors will also continue to update the existing lineup. The company plans to bring facelifts, updates and special editions of more than 20 ICE models and more than 10 EV models by March 2031. With this, Tata Motors will try to further strengthen its position in the Indian market.
