Tata Motors’ Nexon SUV tops the list of top 10 cars in India in January 2026 with 23,365 units
January 2026 saw the domestic automakers dominate the Indian car market, with Tata Motors topping the sales charts with the Nexon. Tata Nexon sold 23,365 units in January 2026, an increase of 51.75 percent year-on-year compared to 7,968 units sold in January 2025.
A major reason for the popularity of this compact SUV is its multiple powertrain options like petrol, diesel, CNG and electric (EV), which provide more choices to the customers. Tata Punch was in second place, whose sales were recorded at 19,257 units. Compared to January 2025, its sales have increased by 3,026 units. This compact SUV, which competes with Hyundai Exeter, is also available in petrol, CNG and electric variants, due to which its demand remains strong.
Hyundai’s Creta SUV has got the third place in the list, whose sales have been recorded at 17,921 units. However, compared to January 2025, its sales have seen a decline of 3.24 percent. Maruti Brezza stood fourth, with sales of 17,486 units, which is 18.57 percent more than in January 2025.

At fifth place was Mahindra’s Scorpio family, which includes Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N. Mahindra sold 15,542 units of these two in January 2026, which is 100 units more than last year. At sixth place was the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, which is positioned below the Grand Vitara in the portfolio. The company has sold 15,240 units of it last month.
At the seventh position was Maruti Fronx, which sold 13,353 units. However, its sales have registered a decline of 12.11 percent as compared to January 2025. Hyundai Venue was in eighth place, with sales of 12,413 units. This SUV got an update last year and its sales have increased by 11.77 percent.
At ninth place was Mahindra Bolero, whose sales have registered an annual increase of 36.39 percent and last month it sold 11,841 units. Kia’s Sonet was at tenth place in the top-10 list, with sales of 10,998 units. Its sales witnessed an impressive growth of 52.88 percent, which shows Kia’s strong hold in the compact SUV segment.
