Tata Motors has confirmed that the company will launch Sierra EV, new Punch EV and Avinya range of premium electric cars in India in the year 2026.

Tata Motors has achieved an important milestone in India’s electric mobility journey. More than 2.5 lakh TATA.ev vehicles are now running on the country’s roads, further strengthening Tata’s position as a pioneer and market leader in the electric passenger vehicle segment. Tata’s electric vehicle journey, which started five years ago, has today reached more than 1,000 cities and towns.

According to the company, about 84 percent of customers are using their Tata EV as their primary daily vehicle, which reflects a significant change in consumer mindset. On an average, Tata EV owners are driving around 20,000 kilometers every year and around 26,000 vehicles have driven more than 1 lakh kilometres. Long-distance travel has also become common, with nearly half of customers completing at least one trip of more than 500 kilometres.

Till now, Tata’s electric vehicles have run a total of about 12 billion kilometers across the country. It has also had a big impact from the environmental point of view, because due to these EVs, about 17 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced and about 80 crore liters of fuel has been saved.

Tata Nexon EV has played an important role in this success, which was introduced as India’s first mainstream electric SUV in 2020 and has become the first EV in the country to cross the sales mark of more than 1 lakh. Apart from this, Tata currently has the largest electric car portfolio with Tiago EV, Punch EV, Curve EV and the recently launched Harrier EV.

Charging and service network also have a big contribution behind Tata’s EV growth. Customers are now getting the facility of more than 2 lakh charging points including home, community and public charging. The company has a charging aggregator connecting more than 20,000 public chargers and also has 100 mega charging hubs with a capacity of more than 120 kW operational on major routes across the country. Along with this, more than 1,500 EV-dedicated service bays and more than 5,000 trained technicians have been created.

Talking about future plans, Tata Motors will launch the Sierra EV and the new Punch EV in 2026, while the premium Avinya EV range will also be launched in the market by the end of the year. The company aims to introduce five new EV nameplates by FY30. Charging infrastructure will also be rapidly expanded, with plans to reach 4 lakh charge points by 2027 and 10 lakh charge points by 2030.

Commenting on these achievements, Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, said, “The sale of 2.5 lakh electric vehicles shows that electric mobility is fast becoming a part of the everyday lives of Indians. He said that customers are now driving their EVs more, taking longer trips and using them as their primary vehicle. According to Shailesh Chandra, Tata, which started in 2018, The objective of the EV journey was not just to get ahead, but to create a strong ecosystem to take India towards clean and sustainable mobility.”
