In the year 2025, the Indian car market has once again shown that the demand for SUV and hatchback segments remains strong. However this list only includes one compact sedan. In the list of top 10 cars, Maruti Suzuki Dezire has secured the first position with sales of more than 2.14 lakh units. Affordable pricing, good mileage, low maintenance and reliable brand values have kept Dezire popular among fleet and private buyers.
Coming second on the list was the Hyundai Creta, which continues to be the leader in the midsize SUV segment. The premium design, feature-loaded cabin and petrol-diesel engines along with electric options have won it over 2 lakh customers. Whereas Tata Nexon remained at third place by a very close margin and its total sales were 2,00,561 units.
At the same time, hatchback cars like Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Swift still remain the first choice of mass buyers. Last year, a total of 1,94,238 units of Maruti Suzuki Wagon R were sold. Whereas Swift sales stood at 1,89,261. Easy driving in cities, low expenses and resale value were its strong points.

Maruti Ertiga performed brilliantly in the MPV segment for both family and commercial use and sold a total of 1,92,025 units last year. The Maruti Suzuki Suzuki Swift has quickly gained popularity with its coupe-style SUV design and sold 1,79,894 units last year.
right there in the list Mahindra Scorpio has secured the eighth position with sales of 1,76,988 units due to its strong road presence. Maruti Suzuki Brezza recorded steady sales as a reliable compact SUV with cumulative sales of 1,75,310 units.

The inclusion of Tata Punch in the list proves that the micro-SUV segment has created its own identity. High ground clearance, safety features and affordable pricing have made the Punch popular especially among new buyers. Last year, a total of 1,73,502 units were sold. Recently it has been updated with new design and features and it is expected that its sales will increase further in the coming months.
