SUVs dominated in February 2026 and Nexon was the best selling car with 19,430 units
In February 2026, the dominance of the SUV segment was once again seen in the Indian market. SUVs took the top spot in terms of sales in many segments, while some hatchback and sedan models also managed to retain their place in the top 25 list. In the month of February, Tata Nexon emerged as the best selling car in the country and left behind many popular cars of major companies.
According to sales data, Tata Nexon recorded sales of 19,430 units in February 2026, an increase of 27 percent as compared to 15,349 units sold in February 2025 last year. Maruti Suzuki Dezire was in second place, whose 19,326 units were sold. This figure is about 32 percent more than last year’s 14,694 units. The third position was taken by Tata Punch, which sold 18,748 units and registered a growth of 29 percent on an annual basis.
At fourth place was Hyundai Creta, which sold 17,938 units, which is about 10 percent more than last year. This was followed by Maruti Suzuki Brezza at fifth position with 17,863 units, registering a growth of 16 percent. The popular MPV Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has registered a growth of 20 percent with sales of 17,807 units.

In the hatchback segment, Maruti Suzuki WagonR sold 14,885 units, although its sales saw a decline of 25 percent compared to last year. Whereas 14,833 units of Maruti Suzuki Swift were sold, which is 9 percent less than last year. Mahindra Scorpio had a strong performance with 14,665 units, registering a growth of 8 percent. Maruti Suzuki Baleno remained in the top 10 list with 14,632 units, although its sales registered a decline of 5 percent.
Whereas Maruti Suzuki Suzuki sold 13,898 units, but it saw a decline of 35 percent. Apart from this, Mahindra Thar registered a growth of 19 percent with 11,047 units, while Hyundai Venue sold 10,494 units. Kia Seltos achieved an impressive 60 percent growth with 10,308 units.
Next on the list, Toyota Urban Cruiser Highrider recorded the highest growth of 117 percent with 9,359 units. Whereas 8,703 units of Toyota Innova Hycross and 8,637 units of Mahindra XUV 3XO were sold. The new Tata Sierra made its presence felt with 7,100 units, while the Tata Tiago remained in the top 25 list with 7,040 units.
