A case of fraud in the name of installing lift has come to light in Ratlam. It is alleged that an Indore company did not install the lift despite taking advance amount from about 10 people. On the complaint of the victims, the police have registered a case against the company and its responsible people and started investigation.
According to the information, the accused company had taken advance amount from different people with the assurance of installing modern lifts and completing the work within the stipulated time. But after receiving the payment, neither the lift was installed nor the work was completed within the stipulated time. When no satisfactory response was received from the company despite repeated contacts, the victims approached the police.
The victims allege that the company collected lakhs of rupees as advance by promising to start the work, but later kept postponing the work. Many times, when the lift was not installed despite giving time, people felt cheated.
On the basis of the complaint, the police have registered a case against the concerned company of Indore under relevant sections including fraud. Police are now investigating the company’s documents, payment records and the contract signed between the two parties.
Investigating officers say that the statements of all the victims are being recorded and it is being ascertained the total amount taken and on what terms the company had promised to work. Further legal action will be taken based on the evidence in the case.
Police are also investigating whether similar complaints have been registered against the company in other districts also. If the investigation finds evidence of fraud on a large scale, the scope of the case can be expanded.
The police have appealed to the people to thoroughly check their registration, work record and contract terms before giving any large amount in advance to any company. At present the investigation of the case is going on and the police say that strict action will be taken against the culprits as per rules.
