To protect against dangerous diseases like cervical cancer, the Government of India has started a free HPV vaccine campaign for girls up to 14 years of age, but many questions are being raised regarding the HPV vaccine. One of these questions is whether it is safe to get vaccinated during periods?
According to the health department, it is completely safe to take HPV vaccine during periods. The vaccine aims to prevent cervical cancer and does not affect the body’s hormones or menstrual cycles.
The HPV vaccine was first used in the world in 2006 and since then there has been continuous research on its safety and effectiveness. Over the years, thousands of girls and women have been vaccinated and there has been no evidence of any long-term changes in periods or serious side effects.
Doctors and health experts always say that periods are not a hindrance to any vaccination. If a girl has common vaccine reactions, such as mild pain, fatigue, or fever, these are normal effects of the vaccine and not caused by periods.
Many times people think that the body is more sensitive during menstruation and there may be some risk in taking the vaccine. This notion is also wrong. The body still accepts the vaccine well at this time and continues to produce antibodies. In fact, there is no medical contraindication for vaccination during periods. If the girl has pain, cramps or any other mild discomfort, the doctor gives general advice, such as rest and taking painkillers for mild pain.
It is important for every woman to get the HPV vaccine, although it is considered better to get it in adolescence. Even a single dose of the quadrivalent HPV vaccine is very effective.
