Aamir Khan Lagaan 25 Years: The 17th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), the largest festival of Indian cinema outside India, will be organized from 13 August to 23 August 2026 this year.
This time the festival will start with a special curtain raiser event, which will be organized a month before the festival starts. This special event will be dedicated to celebrating 25 years of the Oscar-nominated classic film ‘Lagaan’.
This special event will be held in Melbourne on July 9, where actor and producer Aamir Khan will attend the special screening of the film Lagaan. This year’s festival will officially open at Melbourne’s prestigious ACMI Cinema. Considered among the most memorable films of Indian cinema, Lagaan was the second Indian film to be nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. Even today this film maintains its special identity among the audiences all over the world.
Over the years, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne has become one of the world’s most prestigious platforms for Indian cinema. So far, many big personalities of the Indian film industry have participated in this festival organized with the support of the Government of Victoria. These include Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, A.R. Rahman, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Ram Charan, Vijay Sethupathi, Vicky Kaushal, Vijay Verma and Keerthy Suresh as well as famous filmmakers like Rajkumar Hirani, Shoojit Sircar, Anjali Menon, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Zoya Akhtar, Reema Das, Onir and Kabir Khan.

The 17th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will once again bring together filmmakers, artists, industry professionals and cinema lovers from across the world. Film screenings, premieres, special discussions, masterclasses and many cultural programs will be organized during the festival.
