New Delhi, February 20 (). India on Friday said it is looking forward to further strengthening the multi-faceted bilateral relations between the two countries after the formation of the new government under the leadership of Tariq Rahman in Bangladesh and detailed discussions will be held on all aspects.
“After the completion of the elections in Bangladesh, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. During the swearing-in ceremony on February 17, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla represented the Government of India and he handed over our Prime Minister’s letter to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at the weekly media briefing.
He said that the Lok Sabha Speaker also held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Jaiswal said, “We look forward to further strengthening our multifaceted relations with Bangladesh, taking forward the historic and warm relations between the two countries. We are keen to take the relationship forward by engaging with the new government. All aspects of our bilateral relations, including visas, will be discussed with the new government.”

During the meeting, Birla congratulated Tariq Rehman on assuming charge and also invited him to visit India. The two leaders expressed optimism about working together for the welfare of the people of India and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riyaz Hamidullah also said in a joint statement on Twitter that Prime Minister Tariq Rahman sent his good wishes to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that both sides committed to move forward together under a people-centric cooperation agenda.
BNP President Tariq Rahman has been sworn in as the 11th Prime Minister of Bangladesh following his party’s decisive victory in the recently held 13th parliamentary elections.
