Famous filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is going to present filmmaker Syed Shadan’s new short film Chaar Deewari. The film will make its North American premiere at the 2026 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Canada.
This is a major achievement for Indian independent cinema, as Chaar Deewari is among the very few Indian films selected for this prestigious international film festival this year. Fantasia International Film Festival is considered to be the largest genre film festival in the world.
Produced by Shivek Gupta and Syed Shadan, this psychological horror thriller film has been selected for the Fragments d’Assise section and will have its North America premiere on July 30, 2026.
The story of Char Diwari is about a man who rents a simple house to live. But soon he discovers that there is a very scary secret hidden within the walls of that house. Filled with psychological tension and horror, this film is a story of fear, loneliness and the unseen secrets that can sometimes be hidden even in our own homes.
Anurag Kashyap, who has always supported new and different types of films, has decided to present Chaar Deewari in collaboration with Ranjan Singh. This has further strengthened the artistic vision of the film and its identity at the international level. His presence will help the film gain a new identity in the global film festival circuit.
Talking about the film, Anurag Kashyap said, “‘Chaar Deewari’ makes you feel a strange fear from the very beginning. Whatever you see happening, you feel that it cannot happen. But gradually the film takes you amidst the same fear, from which you want to escape the whole time. I liked this film very much.”

Shadaan has his own identity and style of storytelling, and I think Fantasia is the perfect platform to premiere this film.”
