Guwahati, January 4 (). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday reacted to the opinion poll in which BJP is expected to come to power in the state for the third time. He said that important decisions related to seat sharing within the NDA are yet to be taken before the 2026 state assembly elections.
Responding to the new opinion poll conducted by an organization, CM Sarma said that the time has not yet come to celebrate these estimates. “The survey reports are coming and they show us in a good position, but I believe the time for the survey has not come yet,” he told reporters.
In the opinion poll, BJP is projected to win 69 to 74 seats in the 126-member assembly.
Chief Minister Sarma said, “The survey shows that BJP may get around 75 seats and Assam Gana Parishad may get nine seats. A decision has not been taken yet on whether we will contest on all these seats or not.” He further said that the situation will become clear only after the discussion within the NDA is completed. He also said that the opposition alliance is yet to be finalized.
The Chief Minister said, “We will complete the seat sharing talks by February, then the situation will become clear. Till then we should not be satisfied by looking at any survey. We should keep working.” He further said that the real result of the elections will be known only through electronic voting machines.
According to the opinion poll conducted between November 15 and December 31, 2025, the NDA is expected to get around 90 seats overall.
It is estimated that Assam Gana Parishad may win eight to eleven seats, while Bodoland People’s Front is expected to get eight to ten seats.
The Congress is estimated to win 25 to 29 seats, while smaller parties like All India United Democratic Front, United People’s Party Liberal, Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad and CPI(M) will get minimal or no seats.
In terms of vote share, the BJP is projected to get 39 percent votes, slightly more than the Congress’s 37 percent votes.
With better prospects in Lower Assam and Barak Valley after delimitation, the NDA is projected to retain its strong hold in Upper Assam and Bodoland.
