Shreyas Iyer will miss the ODI series against South Africa, and the vice-captain will also be out of the ODI series against New Zealand in January. Along with Team India, the tension of Punjab Kings has also increased. He may also miss the initial matches of IPL 2026, as recent reports claim that he will not be able to get back to fitness before the IPL.
Shreyas Iyer was injured while taking a catch in the third ODI against Australia. The scan revealed internal bleeding, for which he had to be admitted to the ICU. The BCCI confirmed that Iyer had suffered a ruptured spleen, and had undergone surgery in Australia. He has since returned to India. Shreyas Iyer is now undergoing rehabilitation at his home in Mumbai. According to media reports, Shreyas Iyer had an ultrasound (USG) test in Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer will have another scan after two months
According to reports, Shreyas Iyer’s latest scan results have shown improvement, but doctors have advised him not to do any activity for the next one month. He has been prohibited from weight lifting activities and has been advised to do only light exercises. They have also been advised not to do any exercise that puts pressure on their stomach. Iyer will undergo another USG test in about two months, which will decide whether he will be able to begin rehab at the BCCI Center of Excellence.
Will he be out of the opening matches of IPL 2026?
Reports suggest that Shreyas Iyer is out of the ODI series against South Africa. He will also not be able to play the ODI series against New Zealand. According to reports, there is little hope of him being fully fit before IPL 2026. There is news that IPL 2026 may start in the third or fourth week of March.
BCCI is keeping an eye on Iyer’s injury and is giving him the best treatment. If Iyer is not fully fit, he may miss the entire 2026 IPL. Iyer was recently seen at a party with team co-owner Preity Zinta. Preeti might have asked about Iyer’s health during this time. Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings in the last auction for ₹26.75 crore and this time he has been retained.
