Dhaka, May 24 (). India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Prannoy Verma paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman on Sunday. Verma’s tenure has ended and he formally bid farewell. In his place, Dinesh Trivedi will now take charge as the new High Commissioner of India.
Prannoy Verma met Tariq Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Division of Bangladesh Secretariat. Pakistan Foreign Minister Khalilur Rehman was also present in this meeting.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party gave this information along with some pictures from the official X handle. Told that this was a courtesy meeting before farewell.
IFS Prannoy Verma has been appointed as the Ambassador of India to Belgium and the European Union (EU). The Embassy of India in Brussels serves as the official mission to the European Union as well as to Luxembourg.
Prannoy Verma’s diplomatic career has been quite prosperous. He has served in Hong Kong, San Francisco, Beijing, Kathmandu and Washington DC. Verma was also India’s ambassador to Vietnam. Apart from this, he has also served as Joint Secretary in the East Asia Division in the Ministry of External Affairs. Has contributed significantly in enriching India’s relations with the countries of East and South-East Asia.
Former Union Minister Dinesh Trivedi will replace Prannoy Verma in Bangladesh. Trivedi is an experienced face of Indian politics, who has played an important role in all three spheres, Parliament, Government and diplomacy. There is a challenge before the seasoned politician, but the experience is such that the hope that relations will improve increases.
Trivedi graduated in commerce from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata and later studied management from America. Before joining politics, he was associated with business and aviation sector and was also a trained pilot. He started his political career with Congress, but later joined Janata Dal and then joined BJP through TMC.
Trivedi has been a member of several parliamentary committees, and was also awarded the ‘Outstanding Parliamentarian Award’ (2016–17) for his active participation in parliamentary work. He has been the Chairman of the Indo-European Union Parliamentary Forum and plays an active role in various parliamentary committees (Finance, Commerce, etc.).
