Baramati by-election: Sunetra Pawar will file nomination on April 6, many veterans will be present

Mumbai The stir has intensified regarding the by-election to be held on Baramati assembly seat of Maharashtra. State Deputy Chief Minister and NCP President Sunetra Pawar will file her nomination on April 6. During this period many senior leaders will be present with him. According to the information, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will also be present during the nomination process. This by-election is being conducted after the death of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. He died along with four others in a plane crash in Baramati on January 28. Ajit Pawar dominated the Baramati seat for a long time and was elected MLA from here eight times, due to which this seat is considered very important politically. The interesting thing about this by-election is that Sharad Pawar led NCP (SP) has decided not to field its candidate on this seat. However, its ally Congress has made it clear that it will not allow the election to be one-sided.
Apart from Baramati, by-election is also to be held on Rahuri assembly seat in Ahilyanagar district on April 23. In the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Shivaji Kardile again contested this seat from BJP and defeated Nationalist Congress Party candidate Prajakta Tanpure by a margin of more than 14,000 votes. Shivaji died of a heart attack in October 2025, after which this seat also became vacant. The results of the by-elections for both the seats will be declared on May 4.
Let us tell you that according to the Election Commission, by-elections are being held on 8 assembly seats in 6 states. Voting will be held in Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland, Tripura on 23 April. Whereas, voting will take place in Gujarat and Maharashtra on 9 April 2026. The Commission has directed the state administrations to ensure free, fair and peaceful voting. Along with this, necessary steps are also being taken regarding security and election preparations.
