Chandigarh After decades, Punjab is once again struggling with a terrible tragedy like flood which has destroyed the lives of the people of Punjab. In this difficult time, where the Maan government is standing shoulder to shoulder like a family with its people and is providing them everything of needs, while the government has left no stone unturned to fulfill the basic needs of women and has taken special care of pregnant women. Maan Sarkar has also given many important instructions to take care of these women. The AAP party’s youth and women’s wing have also intensified relief work in flood affected areas – Nabha, Pathankot, Gurdaspur and many other districts. The activists went to village to provide relief material, ration and especially took care of the needs of women and children.
Apart from this, sanitary pads and mosquito nets were also distributed to women in relief camps in Firozpur and Fazilka. More than 11,103 ASHA workers posted in flood affected districts are providing medicines from house to house and are raising awareness about water and vector-borne diseases. She is also giving priority to the trekking and care of pregnant women and is making sure that there is no obstruction in regular vaccination.
The Maan Sarkar deployed about 458 rapid response teams, 360 mobile medical units and 424 ambulances to help people from flood affected villages and pregnant women and provided delivery facilities through boat ambulances. Not only this, the Health Department also organized several medical camps for the health care of pregnant women and children and also provided special facilities for women. Pre -delivery tests and medicines were also made available in these camps.
In Gurdaspur, authorities have deployed a boat ambulance and a helicopter especially to evacuate seriously sick patients including pregnant women. These efforts have rescued eight pregnant women, one of which a woman delivered safely and gave birth to a healthy child under medical supervision. NDRF teams were activated for rescue operations. The Health Department has emerged as a ray of hope for the residents of flood-affected border villages on the Indo-Pak international border near the Sutlej River.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajwinder Kaur said that Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh has instructed the department to provide all possible assistance to the flood victims, to evacuate the distressed pregnant women and ensure delivery. Following these orders, the Health Department successfully saved Manjeet Kaur from Tandi and Manpreet Kaur from Kalu Wala and admitted her to a civil hospital, where she safely gave birth to her children.
108 ambulance service was provided free of cost for pregnant women. In this challenging time, special medical camps of the Health Department have provided important health services and encouraged the affected families. From officers to employees, the Health Department has stood shoulder to shoulder with the community in this crisis and has supported them. Therefore, this initiative of the AAP government clearly shows that they have noticed the basic needs of women and also worked on important aspects of social security and health – such as sanitary napkins, maternity care – which are extremely important for women in this difficult time.
Out of 45 pregnant women identified in villages near the Sutlej River, four delivery occurred last week – in three government hospitals and in a private panel. The government has shown that the service of humanity is given more priority than politics in the time of crisis. AAP team said- “No kitchen will live without food, no woman will have to face lack of personal hygiene products….”
