quota. A major accident occurred on Friday during the ongoing Railway Underpass (RUB) construction work near Dara Valley on Kota-Jhalawar National Highway-52. Two senior engineers who were inspecting the construction site were buried under the debris due to a sudden collapse of soil. As soon as the information was received, the police and administrative staff immediately reached the spot. With the help of JCB machines present at the spot, both of them were taken out in just 15 minutes, but by then it was too late. In the accident, one engineer died on the spot, while the other died during treatment in the hospital. Kanwas Subdivision Officer (SDM) Babulal Meena said that the work of railway underpass is going on near Dara Valley on National Highway-52. At the time of the accident the laborers had finished their work and left from there. Only LNT and JCB machines were standing at the construction site. Meanwhile, both the engineers—Prabhat Singh Jha and Pankaj Kumar Jha—came down to take stock of the work and inspect it. Then suddenly a large part of the soil from above collapsed and both the officers were completely buried under it. The local police and relief team reached the spot within just 10 minutes of the incident. The JCB and LNT machines parked there were immediately put to work and after about 10 to 15 minutes of hard work, both the engineers were pulled out of the mud.
As soon as he was taken out of the soil, doctors declared Prabhat Singh Jha dead.
At the same time, another engineer Pankaj Kumar Jha was seriously injured. He was immediately taken to Kota hospital with life support, but he also died during treatment. This double accident has created a wave of mourning in the Railways and the construction agency.
Underpass worth ₹ 9.98 crore is being built to get rid of the problem of jam. It is noteworthy that this Railway Underbridge (RUB) is being constructed to get rid of the severe jam that occurs repeatedly in the Dara Valley (Dara’s drain) on Kota-Jhalawar National Highway-52.
Cost and Sanction: With the special efforts of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the Union Road Transport Ministry had issued administrative and financial sanction of Rs 9.98 crore for this RUB near Bridge No. 148 between Kanwalpura and Dara station.
Significance: During the rainy season, heavy vehicles coming to and from Madhya Pradesh often get stuck in the traffic jam of Dara for 10-12 hours. Work was going on on this project for a permanent solution to this problem, where this painful accident happened. Police have registered the case and started investigation.
