A case of large-scale manipulation of wheat available under the National Food Security Scheme (NFSA) has come to light in Jodhpur district. Government wheat meant to reach poor and needy families not only did not reach the shops at fair price on time, but it was misused and a scam of crores of rupees was carried out. According to the investigation report of the District Logistics Officer, a total of 7,909 quintals of wheat was not delivered to the respective shops between September 2024 and March 21, 2025.
According to the government rate, wheat is recovered at the rate of Rs 27 per kg. On this basis, the total value of the missing wheat comes to Rs 2 crore 13 lakh 54 thousand, which directly confirms a big food grain scam. Many serious irregularities have come to light in the case and prima facie the manager, transport contractor and related persons have been found guilty.
How did the matter come to light?
The District Logistics Department has been receiving complaints for the last few months that wheat is not reaching many fair price shops on time. There was disruption in supply to the beneficiaries, even though the records showed the supply to be regular. When the department started investigating this, it was revealed that thousands of quintals of wheat were diverted midway and no mention was made of taking them to the shops.
The investigation found that:
Transporter many times showed fake supply of wheat
The stock register was tampered with
Collusion revealed between manager and suppliers
There was a huge difference between the allocation of wheat and the actual distribution
District Logistics Officer lodged FIR
After confirming the scam, the District Logistics Officer has lodged an official report at Basni police station. The manager, contracted transporter and other concerned persons have been named in the FIR. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police have seized documents, stock records and transport registers.
The shadow of investigation is also on many officers
According to the logistics department, this scam cannot be done by any one person alone. Therefore, the role of responsible officers, store in-charges and transport inspectors is also being investigated. Initial reports indicate that this is organized food misuse.
