Bikaner. Women advocates, under the leadership of senior advocate Sakina Bano, have submitted a memorandum to the District and Sessions Judge demanding a separate bar room for women advocates in the Bikaner court complex. In the memorandum, a request has been made to change the present arrangement of bar rooms available in the court premises and reserve a separate room for women advocates. The memorandum states that two common bar rooms have been built in the new court complex, one of which is located on the ground floor and the other on the first floor. The bar room located on the ground floor has been allotted by the court administration with the condition that no advocate will have the right to sit on it permanently and it can be used by all the advocates as per the requirement. Some advocates have started sitting permanently in the bar room located on the first floor and tables and chairs have been placed there and are being used regularly. It has been said in the memorandum that at present there is no separate bar room available for women advocates in the court premises, whereas the Honorable Supreme Court has stressed on providing necessary facilities for women advocates. Apart from this, there is a women’s common room in the old court premises, which is not being utilized adequately.
Referring to the increasing number of women advocates, facilities for rest and other needs of women lawyers coming from far off places, the memorandum has demanded that one of the bar rooms located on the ground floor or first floor should be reserved for women advocates. He says that this will provide a safer, easier and more convenient environment for women advocates to work in the court premises.
The delegation included Advocate Sakina Bano, Advocate Harshan Khan, Advocate Nisha Qadri, Advocate Priyanka, Advocate Tara Bhati, Advocate Benazir, Advocate Neelam, Advocate Kavya and Advocate Gurjeet.
A copy of the memorandum has also been sent to the President of Bar Association, Bikaner.
