Chandigarh. Reacting to the ongoing discussions regarding India-US trade agreement, Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Tuesday said that there is no need for farmers to panic. He clearly said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has assured that there will be no compromise with the interests of farmers and cattle herders. Dhillon said that the Central Government has made it clear many times that paddy, wheat, pulses, milk and other agricultural products will be completely kept out of the scope of the proposed trade agreement. He also said that no agreement has been finalized yet and only talks are going on at the moment. Therefore, farmers do not need to get misled by any kind of rumor or misleading information.
Targeting Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, Dhillon said that these parties have always done politics in the name of farmers and have continuously spread false propaganda. On the contrary, BJP has always stood strongly with the farmers and will continue to do so in future too.
He appealed to all the farmers of Punjab to be cautious of misinformation and misleading propaganda and have full faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dhillon said that if any farmer organization has any doubt or concern then it can talk to the government. The BJP led central government is ready to dialogue with farmers on every issue.
Reiterating BJP’s commitment, he said that the only objective of Prime Minister Modi and BJP is to increase the income of farmers and make them economically prosperous, because when the farmers of India will prosper, then only Punjab will also be truly prosperous.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab left for Delhi on Tuesday morning in protest against the proposed India-US trade deal but were stopped by the police at Shambhu, Kundli and Khanauri borders. The police closed the road by placing heavy barricades on the border. At the same time, the farmers made it clear that they will not try to break any barricade and want to convey their views to the government in a peaceful manner.
However, later Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that we have been assured by a Haryana minister that he will get us talking to the Union Agriculture Minister in the coming days. A letter in this regard will be handed over to you within 8-10 days, after which the path of communication will be paved for you. Talking to journalists on Tuesday, he said that in the talks to be held in the coming days, a decision will be taken as to what steps will have to be taken.
