Washington, April 26 (). The US military is continuously enforcing the sanctions imposed on Iran and is continuing to stop ships passing through Iranian ports. US Central Command gave this information on social media.
One post said that since the beginning of the blockade, the route of 37 ships has been changed so far. A merchant ship named “Seven”, which was intercepted by US forces in the Arabian Sea on Saturday, is now on its way back to Iran as per US instructions and is being monitored.
US President Donald Trump announced on April 12 that the US Navy would begin intercepting ships attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz. His decision came after the first round of US-Iran talks held in Pakistan on April 11 and 12, in which no peace agreement was reached.
Responding to Trump’s decision, Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian warned that if the security of the Strait of Hormuz is threatened, it will affect the trade of the entire world.
On Saturday, Iran’s main military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, reiterated that they will retaliate if the United States continues its “blockade, plunder and piracy” in the Middle East region, Xinhua news agency reported.
Meanwhile, Trump also said on Saturday that the trip of American representatives to Islamabad this weekend has been cancelled. Trump wrote on his social media platform that America is in a strong position and if Iran wants to talk, it will have to come forward itself. He also said that travel wastes time and that there is a lot of division and confusion even within Iran’s leadership.
In fact, differences have emerged between groups taking soft and hard stances on Iran’s leadership. While Araghchi, considered a moderate, announced on Friday that the Strait of Hormuz was open, the hardline Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) closed it again on Saturday.
After efforts to restart talks in Islamabad failed, Trump extended the ceasefire indefinitely but has maintained a naval blockade of Iran’s ports.
