Guyana, July 17 (). New Zealand performed brilliantly in the third ODI and defeated West Indies by 6 wickets. Batting first at the Providence Stadium, the entire West Indies team was all out after scoring 140 runs. In response, New Zealand achieved the target of 141 runs by losing 4 wickets in 39.3 overs.
With this victory, New Zealand has taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match ODI series. The start of the Kiwi team chasing the target was nothing special. When Will Young returned to the pavilion after scoring 23 runs, Henry Nicholls also could not take advantage of the good start and was out after scoring 24 runs.
Mark Chapman could score only 7 runs, while Daryl Mitchell contributed 28 runs. After the fall of 4 wickets on the score of 89, Tom Latham and Dean Foxcroft took the lead and made an unbroken partnership of 52 runs to take the team to the target. Latham remained unbeaten on 31 runs in 53 balls with the help of 2 fours, while Foxcroft scored 22 runs.
Earlier, the performance of West Indies batsmen was disappointing for the second consecutive match and the team was bundled out for just 140 runs. John Campbell retired after scoring 6 runs, while Akeem Auguste failed to take advantage of the good start and became the victim of Jacob Duffy after scoring 26 runs. Captain Shai Hope’s bat also remained silent and he could score only 8 runs. Sherfane Rutherford returned to the pavilion after scoring 4 runs and was caught by Nathan Smith on the ball of Mitchell Santner.
Casey Carty contributed 48 runs with the help of 6 fours. Shimron Hetmyer was out after scoring 26 runs in 28 balls. Keemo Paul could score only 4 runs, while Gudakesh Moti returned to the pavilion without opening the account. Khairi Pair (4 runs) and Alzarri Joseph (7 runs) also could not show anything special with the bat. Jayden Lennox performed brilliantly in bowling for New Zealand, taking 4 wickets for 52 runs. Whereas, Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell took two wickets each. One wicket came in the bag of Jacob Duffy.
