Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to visit India from February 26 to March 7, 2026. In this tour he will visit India, Australia and Japan. He himself has announced this tour. The purpose of his visit is to open new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses in the trade, energy, technology and defense sectors. The office of the Prime Minister of Canada has confirmed his visit.
Emphasis on strengthening Canada-India relations
PM Carney’s visit to his country’s three strongest Indo-Pacific partners will focus on further strengthening regional relationships, which are vital for security and prosperity. During the India tour, the Canadian PM will first visit Mumbai and then New Delhi, where he will meet PM Narendra Modi. The two leaders will discuss new partnerships in the areas of trade, energy, technology and AI, talent and culture, and defence. The focus of both the leaders will be on strengthening and furthering Canada-India relations. Mark Carney will also meet with business leaders to discuss investment opportunities in Canada, which could foster new partnerships between businesses from the two countries.
Canadian PM will also visit Australia and Japan
After the India tour, PM Carney will also visit Sydney and Canberra in Australia, where he will meet PM Anthony Albanese. During the visit, both sides will discuss strengthening cooperation on defence, maritime security, essential minerals, trade and advanced technology including AI. PM Carney will also address both houses of the Australian Parliament and the special people invited. This will be the first time in 20 years that a Canadian Prime Minister will address the Australian Parliament. After this, Canadian PM Carney will travel to Tokyo, Japan, where he will meet Prime Minister Takaichi Sane. They will discuss strengthening mutual investments and partnerships in clean energy, advanced manufacturing, essential minerals and food security.
