Chhattisgarh: Irregularities in paddy procurement, FIR against committee manager

Baloda market. To maintain transparency in the paddy procurement system, the district administration is continuously monitoring it. The administration has taken strict action after a serious irregularity came to light in this regard. An FIR has been lodged against the committee manager in-charge, who caused financial loss to the government by showing fake weight of paddy. This action is not only a warning to the guilty officer, but also a clear message to the entire paddy procurement system that playing with the rules will not be tolerated. According to the information received, this case has come to light in the paddy procurement center located in village Kharatora. Serious irregularities were committed by the committee manager in-charge Durgesh Kumar Gendre on January 21, 2026. It is alleged that he misused the token issued in the name of his elder brother Surendra Kumar Gendre and showed fake weight of 53 bags of paddy, totaling 21.20 quintals of Sarna paddy, without bringing the paddy. The price of this alleged paddy was stated to be Rs 50,222.50, for which not only a fake weighing sheet was issued but the same was also entered in the online system. Not only this, online payment was also recorded, which makes it clear that the entire matter was carried out in a planned manner. Investigation has revealed that Durgesh Kumar Gendre misused his position and authority and violated the provisions clearly mentioned in the paddy procurement policy. In the paddy procurement process, it is mandatory that the process of online entry and payment should be completed only after the actual arrival of paddy, physical verification and weighing.
In this case, the entire process was shown complete on paper and in the online system without any actual arrival of paddy. This has caused direct economic loss to the government and has also raised questions on the credibility of the paddy procurement system. As soon as the district administration got information about this irregularity, considering the seriousness of the matter, an immediate investigation was conducted.
When the preliminary investigation found the allegations to be true, the administration, without showing any laxity, lodged an FIR against the in-charge committee manager Durgesh Kumar Gendre at Palari police station. This FIR has been registered under number 96. The administration says that if more facts come to light in the further investigation, additional legal action will be taken on that basis.
This matter has come to light at a time when the paddy procurement season is at its peak and thousands of farmers are dependent on procurement centers for their produce. In such a situation, this kind of fraud not only causes harm to the government, but also affects the rights of honest farmers. –
