Beijing, March 4 (). Chia Kuaid, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations based in Switzerland, addressed the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council on March 2, calling on all parties to jointly improve and advance the global human rights regime.
He said that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Human Rights Council and the 40th anniversary of the passing of the Declaration on the Right to Development. However, with unilateralism, protectionism and supremacy on the rise, multilateralism is facing challenges and the international human rights movement is grappling with serious challenges. The current situation in the Middle East is particularly worrying. At this time, it is even more important to safeguard the multilateral system with the United Nations at the center, promote the work of the three pillars of peace and security, development, human rights in a balanced manner, and continue efforts to reform and improve the global human rights regime.
Chia Kuaid stressed that China looks forward to upholding the human rights implications contained in the global governance initiative and called on all parties to safeguard human rights through security and create a peaceful environment for the realization of human rights. Also called for adhering to a people-centered approach and promoting the balanced development of all human rights, and promoting human rights through equality and renouncing political confrontation.
This year marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and the opening of two Chinese sessions (the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, or CPPCC, and the National People’s Congress, or NPC). China will continue to develop full-process democracy, so that the fruits of Chinese-style modernization can bring greater benefits to all people. China looks forward to working with all countries to promote the healthy development of international human rights and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.
