Kapurthala (Punjab)
A delegation of journalists organized by Press Information Bureau (PIB) Jaipur visited the famous Pushpa Gujral Science City located in Kapurthala, Punjab. Spread over 72 acres, this Science City is not only one of the largest science projects in the country, but is also a powerful medium to develop scientific attitude among students and general public. Unique effort to understand science through ‘edutainment’
Public Relations Officer of Science City, Shri Ashni Kumar, while welcoming the delegation, said that the main objective of this center is ‘Edutainment’ (education through entertainment). He gave detailed information to the journalists about the various galleries and state-of-the-art technology of Science City.
Main attractions of the tour:
Space Theater and Digital Planetarium: The grand globe-shaped building houses a 328-seat Space Theatre. Its screen is 10 times larger than a normal 35 mm screen. In the Digital Planetarium, visitors get a live experience of the starry sky and the seasons of the planets.
Flight and Earthquake Simulator: The 30-seat flight simulator provides an exciting experience of space travel and racing tracks, while the earthquake simulator gives people a real feel of earthquake tremors.
Dinosaur Park: This is one of the largest dinosaur parks in the country, where models of 44 giant dinosaurs are installed. Some models are seen moving with sound and motion.
Amazing Living Machine (Health Gallery): A 12 feet high heart model is the center of attraction here, through which the process of blood circulation can be seen directly.
Defense and Railway Gallery: The Defense Gallery displays Vijayanta tanks, MiG-23 aircraft and missiles used in the 1971 war. In the Rail Gallery, models of Delhi Metro, Japan’s Bullet Train and Kalka-Shimla Railway showcase modern technology.
Climate Change Theatre: Built in an 18 meter diameter dome, this theater explains the serious effects of climate change and global warming through modern technology.

During the tour, the journalists also visited the Fun Science Gallery and Virtual Reality section. The state level energy park here, powered by solar energy, gives the message of environmental protection. The delegation found the place to be not only enlightening but also a modern temple encouraging the spirit of innovation and curiosity.
