CWG 2026: Preeti defeats Debra Mittenje, Jadumani Singh defeats Pakistani boxer

Glasgow, July 27 (). At the Commonwealth Games 2026, Indian boxer Preeti registered a resounding win against Malawi’s Debra Mitenje in the ‘Round of 16’ via ‘Referee Stops Contest’ (RSC). With this, Preeti has made it to the women’s 54 kg quarter-finals. On the other hand, in the men’s 55 kg category, Jadumani Singh defeated the Pakistani boxer and made it to the quarter-finals.

In men’s 55 kg category, Jadumani Singh defeated Pakistan’s Rehman 5-0 in the ‘Round of 16’. Jadumani won the first round 3-2. In Round-2, all the judges gave 10-10 marks to Jadumani. Earlier, in the round of 32, the Indian boxer had defeated Scotland’s Aaron Cullen 5-0.

In the 54 kg women’s category, Preeti was seen completely dominating the match from the beginning and in the first round, all five judges gave the verdict in her favor. The Indian boxer landed several accurate punches, due to which the referee had to stop the fight at 2:13 minutes in the second round, thus securing a resounding victory.

His dominance was clearly visible in the judges’ scorecards; Four judges scored the first round 10–9 in his favor, while one judge scored it 10–8. Mitenje was knocked down twice before the fight was stopped. With this victory, Preeti has confirmed her place in the quarter-finals, where she will face Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde on July 28.

Clyde also made it to the last eight in spectacular style by defeating Bamfo of Ghana by unanimous decision (5-0) in the round of 16. The quarter-final match can be a big challenge for the Indian boxer, because the stake will be to make it to the semi-finals.

India added two more medals to its kitty by Sunday evening. Mirabai Chanu completed her hat-trick of gold medals in the Commonwealth Games by winning the title of women’s 48 kg category. Chanu lifted a total of 190 kg (85 snatch and 105 clean and jerk).

Earlier, weightlifter Rishikant Singh Chanambam won the silver medal in the men’s 60 kg category by lifting a total weight of 264 kg. Rishikant lifted 121 kg in snatch, after which he was successful in lifting 143 kg in clean and jerk.
