A big news has just come out regarding the politics of Tamil Nadu. Not even 10 days have passed since CM Vijay’s government was formed, but its situation already seems shaky. What is special is that the CPI(M) has clearly stated that if Vijay’s party – TVK – decides to form an alliance with any faction of the AIADMK or the AIADMK itself to run the government, they will definitely reconsider their decision.
**What did CPI(M) say?**
CPI(M) state secretary P. Shanmugam said, “We extended our support to the TVK only because Tamil Nadu was not prepared to face another election so soon. Moreover, our objective was to foil the BJP’s intention to indirectly rule Tamil Nadu by imposing President’s rule through the ‘backdoor’. Thirdly, the electoral mandate was clearly against both the DMK and the AIADMK; as a result, the TVK “Emerged as the largest party with 108 seats, even though it could not get an absolute majority.”
P. Shanmugam further said, “The opportunity to form the government was only with them; therefore, on this basis, a government should be formed in Tamil Nadu that reflects the people’s choice. Keeping this in mind, the Left parties and the VCK decided to extend outside support to the TVK. If they accept the support of the AIADMK, or if they include AIADMK leaders in their cabinet, such steps would be considered a violation of the electoral mandate.” P. Shanmugam further said, “This would go against Vijay’s election promise of delivering a clean and efficient administration. Since the mandate was against both the AIADMK and the DMK, any attempt to form a government by taking his support would be a betrayal of the people’s verdict. We hope he will refrain from taking such a decision; however, if he chooses to forge an alliance with any faction of the AIADMK – or the AIADMK itself – to rule the state, we will certainly revisit our current position.” Will be forced to think.”
**Chief Minister Vijay’s concerns are increasing: Understanding the political equation**
It is noteworthy that CPI(M), which is supporting the TVK government from outside, has significantly increased the worries of CM Vijay by threatening to withdraw its support. CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam on Tuesday said that if Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay includes AIADMK MLAs in his Cabinet, his party will reconsider its support to the Chief Minister-led ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK) government. The statement comes amid ongoing efforts by 25 rebel MLAs, who had defected from the AIADMK and want to join Vijay’s government, by cross-voting during the trust vote.
With 108 seats, TVK has the support of Congress, various left parties, VCK and IUML, on the basis of which the TVK government was formed. According to sources, with an aim to stabilize and strengthen his administration, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is currently considering a proposal to include 25 rebel AIADMK MLAs in the government. Amidst this speculation, CPI(M)’s threat to withdraw support has added to Chief Minister Vijay’s troubles; If this situation turns out to be true, then apart from 5 Congress MLAs, 8 MLAs from four other supporting parties can also withdraw their support from the government. Although Vijay will be able to save his government by securing the support of 25 rebel AIADMK MLAs and one AMMK MLA, such a decision may send a negative message among the public. As a result, TVK’s core team is currently engaged in trying to resolve this situation in a balanced and diplomatic manner.
