Death toll in Mathura boat accident rises to 15, search operation still going on

Mathura . The death toll in the boat accident in Yamuna river in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh has increased to 15. On Monday, rescue teams recovered two more bodies from the river. One person is still reported missing, the search for whom is ongoing. According to the information, out of the two bodies recovered, one has been identified as Yash Bhalla alias Yuvraj, a resident of Punjab, while the other deceased has been identified as Monica. Officials said Yash Bhalla’s body was found on the shore near Keshi Ghat near Devra Baba Ghat. The recovered body was in a badly mutilated state. This entire rescue operation is being conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team. The team is continuously running search operations in Yamuna river and searching for missing people. The police have taken the recovered bodies into their custody and sent them for post-mortem. Along with this, joint teams of Army’s Strike One Corps and NDRF are engaged in relief and rescue work in the area.
The accident took place near Vrindavan on April 10 when a boat capsized in the Yamuna river. It is being told that most of the people in the boat were residents of Punjab and they had come to Vrindavan on a religious trip. All these pilgrims were part of a group of about 150 devotees from Ludhiana and Muktsar districts.
There were more than two dozen people in the boat at the time of the incident. It is said that the boat suddenly moved towards deep water in the middle of the river and collided with some heavy object, due to which it lost balance and overturned. Many people were swept away in the water in this accident.
According to the local administration, a pontoon bridge was removed recently due to rising water level in the area where the accident occurred. After the bridge was removed, some pontoon drums were left floating in the water. It is suspected that the boat might have collided with one of those drums, causing this major accident.
At present, the administration and relief teams are continuously running search operations and with the help of drones, every part of the river is being examined so that the missing person can be found as soon as possible.
