New Delhi, October 29 (). The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken a major step to make medical examination of pilots and aircrew faster and easier. On Tuesday, 10 new aeromedical evaluation centers were approved, which are spread in different parts of the country.

This move by DGCA will increase the efficiency of Class 1, 2 and 3 medical examinations, and pilots will be able to get certificates on time.

Earlier there were only 8 centres, which conducted only Class 1 preliminary testing. Now the new centers will conduct all types of tests, including initial, special, post temporary disqualification and age related tests.

These centers are in addition to the boarding centers of the Indian Air Force. All have modern machines, good infrastructure and specialized doctors. Strict rules of DGCA and ICAO (International Standards) will be followed.

Talking about the locations of the new centres, they include Apollo Hospitals (New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Indore), Mumbai: Nanavati Hospitals, Pune: Ruby Hall Clinic, VM Medical Care Centre, New Delhi: Max Multi Specialty Center and Medanta Medicity.

DGCA says that this will reduce delays in investigation, there will be no shortage of pilots and flight safety will remain strong. India is the fastest growing aviation market in the world, hence it is important to strengthen the regulatory framework.

A ‘Public Notice’ with all the detailed guidelines and instructions in this regard has been published on the official website of DGCA.

This extension reflects DGCA’s commitment towards the welfare of the aviation community by making the medical certification process more efficient and less time-consuming, which will help reduce the shortage of potential pilots due to administrative delays.

This initiative is a part of DGCA’s continued effort to modernize and enhance India’s civil aviation regulatory framework to meet the demands of the world’s fastest growing aviation market.
